Jon
Stewart: Independent, Liberal and Funny
Jon
Stewart has quietly become a rising star since taking over The Daily
Show. After he became anchor there in 1999, both Comedy Central and
John Stewart have seen their stock rise.
For
liberal independents like myself, Stewart is a badly needed breath of
fresh air. Here’s a truly funny person who is willing to poke fun at
anyone who deserves it. Stewart decides who needs ridiculing by the
level of the target’s own pomposity and not some political litmus
test that so many talking heads seem wedded to these days.
When
I was in college, the dorms shut down for Fernwood Tonight. These days
it’s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart that has the ears of generation
Y. You may not like what he says but there can be no denying that
millions are listening him to him.
If
you have time, take a look at the video link just above here.
Terrific! |
| Here's
another media pundit who doesn't know how generation X got that label. It's because they were the 10th generation
of the U.S. citizens. So, my generation is Generation XI.
DA
|
Generations
do not claim their own label, they have whatever half-baked label the
older folks create for them forced on them.
You are right about me, though. Way too dim to be a 'pundit'. |
| free,
"...there
can be no denying that millions are listening."
Sure, about 1.2
million(s) to be precise.
KA |
| This
is interesting. This person points to a poll that shows
that The Daily Show pulls 1.2 million viewers a night and acts as if
this proves that his whole fan base is only 1.2 million. I would
have argued with him but it might have turned into a statistical
discussion and those can be fatal.
Clever use of
the (s), KA. |
| Do
you see the dichotomy in the heading of this write-up? Do you believe that
any person can be an independent liberal? Not possible. Independents
are
independent and their minds are made up only after they survey the situation and
determine what they think and then vote accordingly.
OR |
| Wouldn't
you think a person who uses the term 'dichotomy' would know the
difference between MODERATE and INDEPENDENT? |
| What
makes Stewart independent? There is no such thing as an
independent liberal.
Q6 |
| Stewart
is independent in that he has no problem ridiculing Democrats or
Republicans. Unlike saaaay, Dennis Miller who is a partisan
Republican and won't say a bad word about them.
I am also an
independent liberal. The fact that you don't think I exist gives
me a sort of quiet satisfaction.
Didn't
you like the drawing? I think it is about half decent. |
| Hi
freesqueeze,
Just curious, what
is the definition of an
"independent liberal" is. And what makes you one?
Thanks
AB |
| In
my case, I am labeled as liberal by society because I fall towards the
more liberal position on most issues. I see conservative to
moderate to liberal as a whole range of useless labels that people are
given by others and can't be claimed for yourself.
I
am independent because I chose for myself to avoid political parties
and related loyalties. I find that the more devout the party
partisan, the less ability to analyze issues fairly. |
| I
asked my 17 year old son if he has ever watched the fake news on
Comedy Network and it seems has seen it only a couple of times and he watches that channel
all the time.
OR |
| Might
want to call the de-programmers, you could have a closet liberal on
your hands. |
| I
agree. Satirists are a important part of our system and the should ridicule the ridiculous regardless of
political viewpoint.
PE |
Squeegy--
Only an airhead lefty would fess up to going to a college where the "dorms shut down for Fernwood Tonight". That show sucked. You should have skipped the TV
and stuck to
the books and you wouldn't be stuck in your pre-Reagan era time warp.
UG |
| Yeah,
those were the days. Coed dorms where we had to shout
"shower" when we flushed the john. Am I an airhead
because I can honestly relate my college experience, or just because
we disagree on some issues?
LET'S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN!
I should have studied more
(but who can't say that?) |
