Bag Man: Jack Abramoff
These days,
he's known as Washington's most notorious lobbyist, but Jack Abramoff
has earned his infamy with an impressive career in the graft and corruption
industry. Among his low-lights is bilking Native American tribes
of more than $60 million while referring to his suckers as "troglodytes."
Pretty scummy. I guess all the schemes to steal from widows and
orphans had no appeal.
Abramoff must
have been quite an actor to get all that cash from the same people he
referred to in this, now public, email, "I think the key thing to
remember with all these clients is that they are annoying, but that
the annoying losers are the only ones which have this kind of money
and part with it so quickly."
Abramoff,
Chairman of the College Republicans in 1981, was once disqualified
from a middle-school student election for exceeding the spending
limit. The Principle said that Abramoff had thrown a party for
students that amounted to vote buying. Even in those early days
there beat the heart of a true neo-con in little Jack, future Bush
Pioneer .
He met Tom
Delay ten years ago and they quickly came to see a beneficial use for
one another. While Abramoff was shoveling money in DeLay's
direction, DeLay was just as busy on his side shoveling praise, access
and favorable legislation in Abramoff's direction. The results
of this ten year shovel-off is that DeLay and Abramoff have been the
big winners to the detriment of America.
Until
now.
Finally, it
seems that DeLay, Abramoff, Libby and others like them (possibly Rove)
will finally be held responsible for their malfeasance. DeLay
seems to have forgotten all about his old chum, Abramoff, in much the
same way that Republicans in Washington will soon start forgetting
their own relationship with DeLay.
"Say,
didn't he used to spray for bugs around here?"
