MICHAEL MOORE
Sicko is almost here and I, for
one, am really looking forward to it. I saw Fahrenheit 9/11
on the day it came out and the experience was fascinating. I hadn't
been to a film where the crowd was so entranced since I saw Do
The Right Thing in a crowd of mostly African-Americans. In both
cases the audience was on edge throughout and by the end became a
vital part of the film.
One difference I note is there is
almost no grand talk-show-fueled effort to extort theaters from
showing this film. Where are the right-wing anti-free-speechers when
you need them? When Fahenheit 9/11 came out it got tons of
free publicity and then Moore walked off with the Oscar. Is it
possible they might have learned their lesson? Could they be
distracted trying to figure out what branch of the government
Dick Cheney is in? Who knows?
I first saw his film Roger and Me
years ago and loved it's sweet satirical approach. Then Bowling
for Columbine was downright wonderful. I will always remember
the interview with Charlton Heston. Then, I thought Fahrenheit
9/11 was not quite as good but still very enjoyable. I'm betting
this new movie is along those lines.
Sometime within the next two weeks,
we'll see Sicko and I'll come back here and give an informed
review. The commercial they're running doesn't reveal much but I'm
more than willing to pay the price to see it.
Here's a quote from Michael Moore:
"We've spent the better part of the
year shooting our next movie, Sicko (2007). As we've done with our
other films, we don't discuss them while we are making them. If
people ask, we tell them 'Sicko' is a comedy about the 45 million
people with no health care in the richest country on Earth.".
I highly recommend his web site (here).
There's lots of cool stuff going on there. |
